Banten West Java Tourism Development Corporation (BWJ) was established in 1990 for the purpose of developing promising new sites in Western Java for tourism and tourism related purposes. The Company which is 100% privately owned, is one of several Tourism Development Corporations (TDC), all engaged in similar development activities in such areas as Bali (Nusa Dua), Lombok, Manado and Bintan.

As its first major project Banten West Java TDC has a license from Badan Pertanahan Nasional (BPN) and supported by the Directorate General of Tourism, to develop 1500 hectares of land at Tanjung Lesung, West Java, as a new tourism destination.

BWJ has its headquarters at the Menara Batavia, Jalan KH Mas Mansyur in Jakarta's central business district. The Company has specialist skills in resort planning and development and has engaged a selection of internationally renowned specialist consultants in the planning of Tanjung Lesung.

The shareholders in BWJ are respected local businessmen with interests in property, textiles, chemicals and various other manufactured goods. A management team of multi-skilled professionals is responsible for the Tanjung Lesung project.

In order to hasten the development of the key leisure facilities at Tanjung Lesung a joint venture company was formed under the name PT. Tanjung Lesung Leisure Industry (TLLI) in 1996. This Company is presently a partnership between BWJ as majority shareholder and Australian listed property developer Axiom Properties Limited of Perth, WA.
